A Lifelong Love for Dogs

Dogs have been part of my life for as long as I can remember — since I was just two years old. My childhood was filled with the companionship of German Shepherds and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and from that moment, I knew dogs would always play a central role in my life.

When I had a home of my own, I began showing Cavaliers and quickly became immersed in the world of dog showing and handling. I even ran a local Ringcraft class and often handled Dachshunds for a friend, discovering the joy of helping dogs and owners build confidence together.

Over time, I’ve had the privilege of working with and owning a wide variety of breeds — from Labradors to Tibetan Spaniels — but it was the Standard Smooth Dachshund that truly captured my heart. I’ve continued to show them, even breeding a small litter, and their spirited personalities never fail to make me smile.

Meet Effi and Wilf

Effi (left/top) was my second Dachshund, and my first experience in dealing with IVDD. Effi had a stage 4 condition but made a full recovery after surgery, thanks to dedicated physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Wilf (right/bottom) is my youngest and has the greatest character I've ever seen in a dog. Sadly, Wilf suffers from stage 5 IVDD. Despite surgery, he remains doubly incontinent and partially disabled, but he continues to enjoy regular exercise and mental stimulation. His resilience has been a constant source of inspiration for us.

Through these experiences, I've learned hands-on how to support dogs with complex needs, both physically and emotionally.

With personal experience caring for two dogs with this condition, I fully understand the specific needs and attention they require. Rest assured, your furry friend will receive exceptional care in a loving home environment, ensuring your pet feels safe and comfortable while you're away.

Please contact me with plenty of time before your trip to arrange boarding so that we can discuss the individual needs of your dog, and to discuss a trial period and pricing.

So we were unfortunate to have a Dachshund be struck down with stage 4/5 IVDD, unfortunately after 6 month our little boy Otis still has no use of his back legs. Fortunately for us we found Karen at Seaview Dog Training and Boarding who specialises in looking after dogs with IVDD, Otis needs expressing and there are very limited choices of boarders who cater for dogs with IVDD. Karen has sadly had experience with her own dogs and IVDD and knows exactly what is required for their care. Otis has stayed with Karen twice and has grown to love staying there with Karens own Dachshunds, this allows us the well deserved respite for such a challenging condition.I highly recommend Seaview Dog Training and Boarding for dogs with IVDD and for the home from home experience your loved pooch deserves.
